Strengthening Grassroots Governance and Civic Action in The Gambia Commissioned by Gambia Participates , CASA Gambia, in partnership with Change the Game Academy , had the honour of facilitating a transformative 3-day capacity building training from 28–30 July 2025 for 40 community-based organizations (CBOs) from across all regions—from the West Coast Region (WCR) to the Upper River Region (URR)—at AbCa’s Creek Lodge in Foni, The Gambia. This training was part of Gambia Participates’ powerful initiative to enhance civic participation, good governance, and local accountability across communities in The Gambia. The training focused on: Governance frameworks Electoral processes Social accountability Policy advocacy Local resource mobilization Using participatory tools such as community scorecards, stakeholder mapping, and SMART action planning, participants developed hands-on skills to engage meaningfully with local governance structures and lead positive change in their communities. Post-training reflections revealed increased confidence, deeper understanding of civic systems, and a strong desire for continued mentorship and peer learning. This was a defining moment for CASA Gambia—marking not only our commitment to grassroots empowerment, but also our continued growth within the civil society space.
